A boy from southern Manitoba is dead after crashing his snowmobile while out for a ride with relatives on Sunday.
Manitoba RCMP officers responded to reports of a snowmobile crash about six kilometres north of Rosebank, in the Pembina Valley area, around 7:40 p.m., police said in a news release Monday.
“Officers, along with (emergency responders), attended to the scene and were advised that a 10-year-old boy, who was operating a snowmobile with a group of family members, had side-swiped a fence causing him to lose control of the snowmobile where he then collided with a tree,” police said.
The boy was wearing a helmet and other safety equipment at the time of the crash. He was transported to hospital, but later died of his injuries, police said.
The investigation is ongoing, police said.
