Winnipeg has been awarded certification for “exceptional use of data.”

Results for America said Wednesday that the city is among 21 new recipients of What Works Cities Certification.

The City of Winnipeg analyzed workforce data in city-funded projects and then created a new system that led to 21 new contracts in which underrepresented groups made up 75 per cent of the total hours worked, a news release said.

The certification standard measures a city’s use of data based on 43 criteria.

The program, launched in 2017 by Bloomberg Philanthropies, is led by Results for America. The latter organization says it helps decision-makers at all levels of governments “harness evidence and data to make progress on our greatest challenges.”

Three other Canadian cities — Calgary, Edmonton and Hamilton — were among the 21 recipients. The release said 700 cities have submitted assessments since 2017.
