City of Winnipeg snow crews will begin clearing streets, sidewalks and pathways Wednesday night, as residents brace themselves for what is expected to be the first significant snowfall to hit the city this season.

Environment Canada is projecting up to 15 centimetres of snow to blanket parts of southern Manitoba before the end of day Thursday.

Efforts to clear the snow in Winnipeg are to begin at 7 p.m., with crews scheduling their work based on the city’s street priority system.

“Motorists should drive to conditions and use extreme caution when near heavy equipment,” the city said in a news release.

There are no winter parking bans currently in effect. Winter routes are marked by signage, and can also be found online, by contacting 311 or through the city’s Know Your Zone app.
