City’s new police chief sworn in

Winnipeg’s new police chief was sworn in during a ceremony Monday.

Gene Bowers is the 19th chief in the Winnipeg Police Service’s history. He was announced as the next chief on March 7.

He took an oath, administered by Provincial Court Chief Judge Ryan Rolston, on Monday morning.

“My focus will be on enhancing public safety, supporting our members and strengthening community relationships,” Bowers said in a media release.

Bowers has been a member of the WPS since 1989.
