Crews extinguished a fire in a school in St. Boniface on Wednesday morning.
Firefighters responded to a fire alarm at Marion School at 619 Des Meurons St. at 6:10 a.m., quickly brought the fire under control and then worked to ventilate smoke from the kindergarten-to-Grade-8 school.
Damages were primarily contained to a single office, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service said in a news release. No one was inside the school at the time.
Classes at the school were cancelled Wednesday.
“Preliminary observations suggest the fire was accidental, caused by an overheated electrical outlet which had a portable space heater plugged into it,” the release said.
