RCMP have made several drug seizures at Bunibonibee Cree Nation’s airport in recent days after being alerted by First Nation safety officers.
Oxford House Mounties were called to the airport twice in the span of four hours on Oct. 16.
Just before 11:30 a.m. that day, Mounties took a 29-year-old woman, who was being held by safety officers, into custody and searched her. She was found with 80 grams of cocaine and charged with possession for the purpose of trafficking and failing to comply with a bail order. She’s from the community.
Hours later, just after 2:30 p.m., safety officers advised police that another woman, 30, had arrived by plane and that she was believed to be carrying drugs. Officers found 31 grams of crack cocaine and 11 grams of powder cocaine. The woman, who’s from the community, has been charged with possession for the purpose of trafficking.
On Oct. 18, Mounties were again called to the airport after luggage was flagged for possible illicit drugs. Officers found more than 182 grams of crack, several cellphones and drug paraphernalia. A 21-year-old man from Edmonton faces a drug trafficking charge.
