Green thumbs looking for a boost this spring can soon get compost for free from the city.

The nutrient-rich waste is being given out May 8 until May 10 from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m., said a news release from the City of Winnipeg.

Compost will be handed out at 1901 Brady Road, next to the Brady 4R Winnipeg Depot, at the Kilcona Dog Park and the closed Summit Road landfill site, said the release.

There is a 100 litre limit per vehicle and residents are asked to bring their own shovels, containers and gloves.

Curbside yard waste collection also starts next week, with Area A collection starting May 4 and Area B starting May 11.
