Crews extinguished a fire in a Manitoba Avenue duplex on Tuesday night.
Firefighters were sent to the two-storey duplex on the 600 block of Manitoba at about 9:19 p.m. They fought the fire from inside and declared it under control at 10:50 p.m.
Everyone inside got out before firefighters arrived. Crews rescued a dog from a suite.
The City of Winnipeg’s emergency social services team was called to help displaced residents find temporary accommodations.
Earlier, at 6:40 p.m., firefighters were sent to a six-storey apartment building in the first 100 block of Keewatin Street. They found a fire in the elevator mechanical room and declared it under control at 7:04 p.m.
“Preliminary observations suggest the fire was accidental, caused by a failure in an elevator motor,” the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service said in a news release Wednesday.
