Crews extinguish two Saturday fires

Firefighters were called to the 200 block of Midwinter Avenue around 5:30 a.m. for reports of a fire.

When crews arrived at the two-storey home, heavy smoke and flames were coming from the house, a Saturday media release states. The fire was declared under control just before 7 a.m.

Crews also responded to reports of a fire in a vacant building on the 600 block of Ellice Avenue around 2:24 a.m.

Police had arrived at the scene before firefighters and used fire extinguishers to slow the spread of the fire.

Both fires are under investigation.
