RCMP in Dauphin are investigating after partial skeletal remains were discovered near the western Manitoba city.

Police say they received a call shortly before 8 p.m. on Monday after a swimmer reported finding what appeared to be human remains in the shallow waters of the Valley River, about 30 kilometres northeast of the city of around 8,500.

The investigation into the origin of the remains is ongoing.

RCMP say they are working with an anthropologist, RCMP Forensic Identification Services, and RCMP Search and Rescue to determine the age and nature of the discovery.
