Three males are facing charges after the front door of a home was kicked in and one of the owner’s dogs was shot.

RCMP were sent to the home on Highway 8 in the Rural Municipality of Gimli at about 5:30 p.m. Saturday. Officers learned three males had gone to the home, threatened the male occupant and kicked in a door.

The victim’s dogs chased the suspects. One of the dogs was shot.

RCMP obtained a search warrant for a home being rented out in Gimli and seized a .357 Magnum, $17,000 in cash and prescription medication.

Three males from Mississauga — ages 23, 18 and 17 — have been charged with breaking and entering, assault, reckless discharge of a gun and using a firearm in the commission of an offence, as well as drug trafficking and other offences. They remain in custody, RCMP said Tuesday.

Police said the incident “was not random.”
