Winnipeg police are investigating a double homicide in the William Whyte area.

Shanastene Irene McLeod, 35, and Sheldon Derrach Catcheway, 33, were both found dead after 4 a.m. Feb. 15 in the 300 block of Alfred Avenue after the Winnipeg Police Service responded to a report that a female had been shot.

Officers arrived on scene to find a man outside the residence suffering from upper-body injuries. Inside the home, a woman was suffering from upper-body injuries. Both received emergency medical care and were taken to hospital in critical condition, but they have since died, the WPS stated in a news release Monday. A homicide investigation is ongoing, police said.

McLeod was a member of Muskowekwan First Nation in Saskatchewan and Catcheway was a member of Swan Lake First Nation. Both lived in Winnipeg, police said.
