A 62-year-old man has been charged with aggravated assault after police had to use a Taser to stop a stabbing downtown Saturday night.
Two men in their 60s had been drinking alcohol together in a downtown establishment when they got in a fight and were escorted out by staff. Once outside, the fight escalated and one of the men stabbed the other, the Winnipeg Police Service stated in a news release Sunday. When officers arrived on scene in the 200 block of Hargrave Street at about 7 p.m. Feb. 1, “the incident was still in progress,” the news release stated. Officers deployed a Taser, secured both men and cordoned off the high-traffic and busy pedestrian area.
Both men were taken to hospital; one seriously injured and later upgraded to stable condition, and the other stable and treated for a minor injury. A 68-year-old man was stabbed and a 62-year-old man is facing charges of aggravated assault and possession of a weapon. He was released on an undertaking.
