Driver arrested in three-vehicle crash

A woman who allegedly caused a three-vehicle crash that injured five people ran off into a nearby field and remains in hospital after being arrested. 

RCMP said a pickup truck driven by a 32-year-old Sanford woman was travelling southbound on Highway 3 about 4 km south of Oak Bluff when it hit the rear of another vehicle at about 7 p.m. Monday.

The second vehicle, driven by a 20-year-old Reinland man, was pushed into the northbound lane and collided with a vehicle driven by a 23-year-old Winnipeg man.

The Reinland man and the four women passengers in the northbound vehicle (ages 30, 27, 26 and 22) were transported to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The 23-year-old male driver of the northbound vehicle was not hurt.

The Sanford woman’s truck went into a ditch, and she fled the scene on foot, RCMP said Tuesday. Mounties used a police dog to track the suspect to a nearby field, where she was arrested for impaired driving causing bodily harm. 

“As she was not dressed for the weather, and had been outdoors for over an hour and a half, she was transported to hospital, where she remains,” RCMP said in a news release.
