A public drop-off location where people can take sick, injured or orphaned animals has been set up in a parking lot at the Assiniboine Park Zoo.
The animals will receive temporary care before being transferred to the Wildlife Haven Rehabilitation Centre in Île des Chênes, the Assiniboine Park Conservancy said in a news release Thursday.
The new facility was an initiative included in a memorandum of understanding signed by the two organizations in August 2023.
The drop-off site is in a publicly accessible area on the west side of the parking lot at the zoo’s main entrance at 2595 Roblin Blvd. and is open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Specially trained conservancy volunteers will manage the intake process with guidance from the zoo’s veterinary team.
Anyone who finds an injured or orphaned animal is asked to call Wildlife Haven at 204-202-3806.
