What a homecoming it was for Nikolaj Ehlers.
The former Winnipeg Jets forward, who received a standing ovation from the crowd after a video tribute was played to recognize his 10 seasons with the organization, set up the game-winning goal from Andrei Svechnikov on the power play at 3:19 of the third period in a 4-3 victory for the visiting Carolina Hurricanes.
On a day the Jets announced that starting goalie Connor Hellebuyck would miss four-to-six weeks with a knee issue that requires arthroscopic surgery on Saturday, Eric Comrie was between the pipes and finished with 24 saves.
Gabe Vilardi scored twice for the Jets, who also got a goal from defenceman Josh Morrissey (that extended his point streak to seven games).
The Jets, who fell to 12-8 as they hit the quarter point of the NHL season, close out a three-game homestand on Sunday against the Minnesota Wild.
