Emergency-alert test scheduled Wednesday

The province is giving Manitobans plenty of warning before a Wednesday-afternoon test of the National Public Alerting System.

The Alert Ready test at 1:55 p.m. will occur on TV, radio and on compatible wireless devices. Some Manitobans, because of device software, settings, network connections or cell-tower coverage, won’t receive the alert, the province’s Emergency Management Organization said in a news release Tuesday.

The tests are necessary to validate the reliability of the system and educate the public on what emergency alerts look and sound like in the event of a life-threatening situation, the province said.
