The Home Depot on Abinojii Mikanah closed late Monday morning because of a fire believed to have started accidentally.

Firefighters were sent to the location at 1999 Abinojii Mikanah at 10:53 a.m.

Crews quickly extinguished the fire, which had been kept under control by the building’s sprinkler system, in a utility room.

Employees and customers were evacuated from the store.

“We are relieved to report that none of our associates or customers were injured,” a Home Depot spokesperson wrote in an afternoon email. “The store remains open and available to serve customers.”

Damage was contained to the room. Preliminary observations suggest the fire was caused by a failure in a battery or charger, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service said in a news release.
