The Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responded at 6:37 p.m. Saturday to reports of a fire in a vacant, multi-storey industrial building on Sutherland Avenue between Maple Street North and Argyle Street North.
The former Vulcan Iron Works foundry was previously gutted by a fire on July 4, 2023 and sustained additional damage in a fire on Sept. 19, 2023. Following the July fire, the building was considered to be a complete loss. Several other minor fires have occurred at the location since then.
When fire crews arrived at the scene Saturday, they were unable to enter the building with heavy smoke and flames coming from parts of the structure. Crews are expected to be on scene through the night working to ensure the fire is fully extinguished.
There have been no injuries reported.
