A vacant house on Pritchard Avenue was set to be demolished after it caught fire Thursday morning.

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service crews were sent to the two-storey house on the 400 block at 10:27 a.m.

They initially tried fighting the fire from inside but had to exit because of heavy flames. A neighbouring home has been evacuated as a precaution.

Firefighters, who later used aerial ladder trucks to blast water on the blaze and used a drone to detect hot spots, remained at the scene in the late afternoon.

The house sustained significant smoke, fire and water damage. Road closures will remain in place until the demolition work is done, the WFPS said.

The area around the home is ice-covered and slippery, and people are advised to use caution, the WFPS warned.

The house also caught fire on Aug. 13, 2013. It was also vacant then.
