Winnipeg firefighters are battling a massive apartment fire on Toronto Street just south of Notre Dame Avenue.
Firefighters were using two ladder trucks to douse the roof of 774 Toronto St., a four-storey apartment block, just before 5:30 p.m.
Fire equipment was blocking eastbound traffic on Notre Dame, reducing it to one lane.
Black and grey smoke from the blaze is billowing over the centre of Winnipeg.
The fire department has not yet commented, including whether anyone was injured or when crews were summoned.
