A man is facing charges after bear spray was discharged towards eight people, including a toddler and a baby, in a random attack Monday.
The incident happened in the area of Young Street and Ellice Avenue at about 5:30 p.m.
A group of eight people, including the mother of the two kids, was walking in the area when a man discharged bear spray at the group and ran off.
Officers searched the area and spotted a man matching the suspect’s description near Sherbrook Street and Ellice.
“As they approached, he motioned to his waistband and took off running,” the Winnipeg Police Service said in a news release.
A man was arrested on the 500 block of Sherbrook after a short foot chase. Police, who used a Taser on the man, recovered a discarded bear spray canister.
A 25-year-old Winnipeg man is charged with possession of a weapon and six counts of assault with a weapon. He was detained in custody.
