A Hamiota man says he’s sending his children to university after winning $40 million playing Lotto Max.
Matthew Tannas bought the ticket on his phone using the Western Canada Lottery Corporation Lotto Spot app and won half the Dec. 3 jackpot, splitting the $80-million prize with someone in Quebec. Both matched all seven numbers.
The win is the largest ever on the app.
Tannas, a big game guide, was working in Alberta when he purchased the ticket.
When he realized he had won, he said he was shocked.
“Just because it was an online ticket … it was hard to believe seeing it on my phone, I had to double check,” Tannas said in a news release.
Tannas said he’ll also buy a new truck, will fix up his daughter’s ’89 Jeep and visit his sister in Nova Scotia with his newfound wealth.
