Hanover man dies after skid-steer loader falls through ice

A 58-year-old man has died after the skid steer-loader he was operating on a pond in the rural municipality of Hanover fell through the ice on Christmas Eve.

Steinbach RCMP, local fire crews, and emergency medical services were called to the address at around 1:30 p.m. Tuesday. The Hutterian Emergency Aquatic Response Team, a group that holds dives to find drowning victims, came to the scene and recovered the man’s body later that afternoon.

Steinbach RCMP are investigating.
