A school in southern Manitoba was placed on lockdown last week after a parent entered the building and allegedly assaulted staff members.
Mounties were sent to the undisclosed school in the Hanover School Division at about 11:45 a.m. on Sept. 10, Steinbach RCMP said in a news release Tuesday.
“It was reported that the school was in lockdown as a parent was causing a disturbance by shouting, uttering threats and throwing punches towards staff members,” RCMP said.
“Steinbach RCMP immediately attended and arrested an adult male who was still roaming the school. Following the arrest, the 43-year-old male suspect threatened to harm and fight police.”
The man was taken into custody and released, with court-imposed conditions, the next day. RCMP did not release his name.
The man was charged with assault and four counts of uttering threats.
The school day returned to normal shortly after the man was arrested, Hanover superintendent Joe Thiessen wrote in an email Tuesday.
“Students remained safe and secure at all times,” Thiessen wrote.
