High-rise residents evacuate as crews battle fire

Some residents had to evacuate as crews battled a fire at a Kennedy Street apartment Thursday morning.
Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service staff responded to reports of a fire at the high-rise in the 400 block of Kennedy at 6:55 a.m.
Some residents were able to get out before crews arrived, while others “sheltered in place,” a city news release stated.
The fire was contained to one suite and deemed under control by 7:40 a.m.
Paramedics assessed one person at the scene and determined hospital transport was not required.
No damage estimates are available. The fire remains under investigation.
