A Dauphin man has been charged after RCMP found a homemade gun with an attached bayonet in a vehicle during a traffic stop late Tuesday.
Mounties on patrol in Dauphin spotted a vehicle speeding on the city’s Main Street at about 10:40 p.m. Tuesday and pulled it over.
An officer approached the vehicle and found two men in the front seats, smelling alcohol and spotting a bag of unmarked cigarettes, RCMP say. The driver was given an alcohol breath test, which he failed.
Inside the vehicle, RCMP found the homemade gun, a spent round, ammunition, cell phones and cash, then determined the driver was on parole and allegedly breaching his conditions.
A 37-year-old Dauphin man was charged with four weapons offences, driving while impaired and possessing property obtained by crime.
