Winnipeg police have arrested and charged a man in the slaying of a woman who was found unresponsive behind Portage Place mall on Halloween.

Ryan John Kennedy, 32, has been charged with second-degree murder and is in custody, the police service announced in a news release Sunday morning.

Kennedy is accused of killing Briannah Clowes, 28. The victim and the accused knew each other, police stated. Clowes died after being rushed to hospital in critical condition on Oct. 31 at about 3:10 p.m. She was found unresponsive on The Promenade behind the downtown mall.
