Hydro crews work to remove ice from power lines

Yesterday’s snow and ice rain continue to cause chaos for power lines, resulting in outages last night and this morning. A planned power outage south of Killarney is expected between 1 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. today, affecting about 140 customers, while Manitoba Hydro crews melt ice off the power lines.
This morning, starting at about 4:30 a.m., about 1,740 customers lost power in the Portage la Prairie area. Power was back on before 8 a.m. Roughly 790 customers were affected by another outage this morning in the St. François Xavier area, including Saint Eustache and Dacotah and Cabot. The power went out at 9:58 a.m. and was restored at 10:28 a.m.
There were approximately 6,000 outages across the province yesterday. By 9 p.m. Thursday, all major outages were restored, a Hydro spokesman stated. Ice buildup and high winds caused power lines to gallop (lifting and swinging like a skipping rope) and Hydro is asking the public to report any downed lines at 1-888-624-9376. Stay away and treat all downed lines as live.
