No charges will be laid against an RCMP officer after a man suffered severe frostbite while fleeing police.
The Independent Investigation Unit of Manitoba investigated a less-lethal firearm being used on the man. Such firearms shoot rounds intended to stop people but not kill.
RCMP have said officers chased the driver of a stolen pickup truck into a wooded area in Ebb and Flow First Nation on Feb. 13. An officer fired at the man, who was unaffected, the IIU said Friday.
The man left a hospital within hours of arriving and was apprehended at a Portage la Prairie hospital on Feb. 15.
Blake Beaulieu was charged with theft, flight from a peace officer and possession of a firearm. A full IIU report will be released after the charges have been dealt with.
