A man is being monitored for a brain bleed and Manitoba’s police watchdog is investigating after a use-of-force encounter that resulted in a man hitting his head and falling unconscious.
Winnipeg police officers were patrolling on the 2000 block of Corydon Avenue at about 8:20 p.m. Sunday when they saw a man yelling and leaving a store with merchandise.
Officers ordered the man to stop, but the suspect fled the scene, the Independent Investigation Unit of Manitoba said in a news release Monday.
“Officers pursued the male, and a use-of-force encounter occurred during which the male hit his head on the ground, rendering him unconscious. He was conveyed to hospital, where he is being monitored for a brain bleed,” the IIU said.
The IIU is asking witnesses or anyone with video to call the IIU toll-free at 1-844-667-6060.
