Manitoba’s police watchdog is investigating after a police dog bit a man during an arrest Thursday in Sandy Bay First Nation.
Manitoba First Nations Police Service were attempting to stop a vehicle when it slid into a ditch and a man fled, the Independent Investigation Unit of Manitoba was told. A canine unit tracked the suspect to a trailer. As the man surrendered to police, he lunged at officers with an object in his hand, the IIU said. The police dog was deployed and bit the man.
The suspect was injured and was sent to Portage District General Hospital for treatment.
The IIU asked anyone with information or video footage of the incident to call investigators toll-free at 1-844-667-6060.
