Impaired collision in St. Norbert leads to two arrests, firearms and drugs seized

A woman and toddler were taken to hospital after a two-vehicle collision in St. Norbert Friday night that led to two men being arrested and the seizure of firearms and drugs, Winnipeg police say.

The Winnipeg Police Service responded to the collision in the 3000 block of Pembina Highway at approximately 8 p.m. on July 24. Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service was already on scene when police arrived.

Police said additional information indicated two male occupants from one of the vehicles were removing bags from the vehicle and hiding them near a nearby hotel.

Officers from the West District searched the area and found one of the suspects and a bag containing a .22-calibre semi-automatic rifle and a loaded magazine.

Police said the 17-year-old male was also found in possession of two CO2-powered pistols, crack cocaine and drug packaging materials.

The teenager is facing multiple firearm and drug trafficking-related charges and was detained in custody.

With assistance from WFPS, canine unit and AIR1, police located a second man stumbling through a field and took him into custody. The 33-year-old man was arrested for impaired driving and firearm-related offences and was transported to hospital in stable condition.

Police said a search of the suspect vehicle uncovered additional methamphetamine and cocaine, with approximately 135 grams of drugs seized in total.

The 33-year-old man is also facing multiple firearm and drug trafficking-related charges, as well as charges related to impaired driving, failing to stop at the scene of a collision and an outstanding RCMP warrant for assault and uttering threats. He was detained in custody.

The woman and toddler from the other vehicle were transported to hospital in stable condition. The investigation is ongoing.
