Jets draft Swedish-born, US-raised defenceman with 28th pick

The Winnipeg Jets have added a talented young defenceman to their prospect pipeline.
Sascha Boumedienne was picked 28th-overall on Friday night during the opening round of the 2025 NHL draft.
The 18-year-old played at Boston University last season and had 13 points (3G, 10A) in 40 games. He is 6-foot-1, 175 pounds and is a left-shot.
 
Boumedienne was born in Sweden but grew up in Ohio, His dad, Josef, played in the NHL and later joined the Columbus Blue Jackets as a scout and, most recently, an assistant coach.
