The Winnipeg Jets are keeping Dylan DeMelo in the fold after the defenceman agreed to terms on a four-year contract with an average annual value of $4.9 million on Tuesday.
DeMelo, who joined the Jets in a deadline deal with the Ottawa Senators in 2020, recorded three goals and a career-high 31 points in 82 games last season while playing big minutes on the top pairing with Josh Morrissey.
The 31 year old expressed a desire to remain with the Jets when exit interviews were held in May and he’s getting a raise from the $3 million AAV on his previous four-year deal he signed in October of 2020.
With the 2024 NHL Draft on tap this weekend in Las Vegas, this is the first domino to fall for the Jets, who could be active on the trade market and are looking to lock down extensions to several other pending unrestricted free agents on the roster, including centre Sean Monahan.
The Jets currently have roughly $8.7 million in cap space, with 18 players under contract for next season, according to Cap Friendly.
