DALLAS – Another day, another step closer to history.
The Winnipeg Jets got a pair of goals from Kyle Connor and a shutout from Connor Hellebuyck (his eighth goose egg of the season) as they blanked the Dallas Stars. 4-0 at American Airlines Center on Thursday.
Nino Niederreiter and Morgan Barron also scored for the Jets, who improved to 54-21-4 and wrap up a two-game road trip on Saturday against the Chicago Blackhawks.
With the win, the Jets extended their lead in the Central Division and Western Conference standings to six points over the Stars.
With three games remaining in the regular season, Jets magic number to clinch the division is down to one point – which includes any points gained by the Jets or lost by the Stars, who have dropped four consecutive games (0-2-2) for the first time this season.
The Jets have never won a division title in the NHL in either the 1.0 or 2.0 versions of the franchise.
