Jets’ Niederreiter sidelined with skate cut

Winnipeg Jets winger Nino Niederreiter will be out of action for at least a week after suffering a significant skate cut in the third period of Monday’s 4-3 win over the Los Angeles Kings.

“Nino’s probably out for about a week. Hopefully not longer than that,” said Jets head coach Rick Bowness. “He took a pretty good gash to the back of his leg, so there are some stitches in there.

“It could have been a lot worse.”

With Niederreiter out, Tyler Toffoli (who missed Monday’s game due to illness) slides onto the line with Adam Lowry and Mason Appleton, while Cole Perfetti stays up on the second line with Sean Monahan and Kyle Connor.

Lowry and Monahan took a maintenance day on Wednesday, while Logan Stanley didn’t skate due to illness.

The Jets close out a five-game homestand on Thursday against the Calgary Flames and have an opportunity to clinch a playoff spot since their magic number is two.
