It may end up being nothing more than the next step in the recovery process for the undisclosed injury he suffered a taking a hit from Brayden Schenn in the first period of Game 5 against the St. Louis Blues.

But the sight of Winnipeg Jets centre Mark Scheifele on the ice, albeit briefly, on Saturday afternoon has to be seen as a positive development.

Before the Jets had a meeting on Saturday, Scheifele went out for a light skate in a track suit and helmet, doing some shooting and stickhandling with Jets assistant coach Marty Johnston.

When asked what the development could mean regarding Scheifele’s status for Game 7 on Sunday night, Jets head coach Scott Arniel left the door open for a potential return.

“Yeah, that’s a great sign. Obviously, a great sign,” said Arniel. “Feels a lot better today than he did yesterday. He wanted to go out and see how he felt and we’ll move forward. He’ll be a game-time decision.”
