The Winnipeg Jets will be without top centre Mark Scheifele as they try to close out the St. Louis Blues on Friday night in Game 6.
Prior to flying to Missouri, Jets head coach Scott Arniel said Scheifele wouldn’t accompany the club on the road trip, though he would neither confirm nor deny if the Jets’ pivot was in concussion protocol.
“I’m not going down that road,” said Arniel.
The Jets lead the best-of-seven series 3-2 after a 5-3 victory on Wednesday night at Canada Life Centre.
Scheifele was on the receiving end of a pair of jarring hits in the first period of Wednesday’s game, one from Blues captain Brayden Schenn that resulted in an interference penalty and another at the offensive blue line from Radek Faksa.
Scheifele didn’t come out for the second period and now his status for the remainder of the series appears to be up in the air.
The Jets are already without winger Nikolaj Ehlers, who will be on the trip but won’t be ready to return for Game 6.
Arniel wasn’t ready to reveal if it would be David Gustafsson or Rasmus Kupari who draws into the lineup on Friday.
