ELMONT, N.Y – The Winnipeg Jets celebrated Thanksgiving Monday with an impressive 5-2 victory over the New York Islanders.
Goaltender Eric Comrie, making his first start of the young season, stopped 33 of 35 shots he faced.
Morgan Barron, Nino Niederreiter, Tanner Pearson and Logan Stanley all had a goal and an assist, with Mark Scheifele adding the other tally into an empty net.
Jonathan Toews also recorded his first point as a member of the Jets with a first-period assist.
It wasn’t all good news, as the Jets lost forward Cole Koepke to a lower-body injury following a shot block. He joins a growing list of hurt players which includes forwards Adam Lowry and Cole Perfetti and defencemen Dylan Samberg and Haydn Fleury.
Winnipeg improves to 2-1-0 while New York falls to 0-3-0.
