Workers at Manitoba liquor stores will remain on strike Friday, as the union representing them navigates a wage dispute with their provincial employer.
“We have learned that Manitoba Liquor and Lotteries Corporation has begun hiring replacement workers at the liquor distribution centre,” a statement issued by the Manitoba Government Employees Union said Thursday.
“Our members want respect, but now, by hiring replacement workers, the corporation is resorting to divisive, bullying tactics that do nothing to help resolve this situation.”
On Tuesday, 150 workers from the King Edward Street liquor distribution centre in Winnipeg walked out on the job. Staff at MLL stores followed suit the following day.
Friday will mark three consecutive days of closures at Manitoba liquor stores.
The union is asking for raises starting at 3.3 per cent this year, and a further 3.6 per cent in 2024 and 2025.
