Corus Entertainment has laid off staff at several AM radio stations across the country, including at Manitoba’s 680 CJOB station.
The job cuts come during a turbulent period for the Canadian television and radio broadcast company, which recently reported a fourth-quarter revenue loss of nearly $26 million compared to last year. To balance the books, Corus has eliminated roughly 800 jobs over the last year, representing a 25 per cent reduction in the company’s national full-time workforce.
“As part of programming refresh across our AM portfolio, we have made some difficult but necessary changes to our radio teams in various markets across Canada to ensure a sustainable future for Corus,” Corus Radio communications specialist Anna Arnone said in an emailed statement Wednesday afternoon. “As a result, certain roles have been impacted but others have been added or changed.”
Arnone didn’t indicate how many staff members or programs have been affected.
