The 115-year-old Louise Bridge will finally reopen to traffic Friday morning after a shutdown expected to last a few days dragged on for months.

The city announced the reopening in a news release Wednesday, after the bridge closed for an annual inspection and maintenance on May 23. It was originally expected to reopen May 27, but that date was delayed to June 1 after crews discovered more extensive repairs were needed.

Further issues led the reopening date to be postponed until the end of July and, finally, until “early September.”

In 2024, city council approved a $40-million preliminary design that aims to extend the Louise Bridge’s life by at least 30 years. It called for construction no later than 2030.
