A 21-year-old man is facing charges after allegedly assaulting a mail carrier Thursday afternoon.
The Winnipeg Police Service said the carrier was delivering mail in the Waverley Heights neighbourhood at about 1:23 p.m. when he was confronted by a resident.
The man began berating the carrier, police said in a news release Saturday, before shoving him to the ground, assaulting him and trying to steal his cellphone, which was damaged in the process.
A passing delivery driver intervened and helped the carrier before calling police.
The suspect is facing charges of assault and mischief to property under $5,000. He was released on an undertaking.
