City police have a man in custody after a 61-year-old victim was knocked unconscious inside a gas station earlier this month.

The incident happened on the 700 block of Lagimodiere Boulevard at 2:30 a.m. on Nov. 2, the Winnipeg Police Service said in a news release Tuesday.

Police said a man and woman pulled into the parking lot in a 2024 Chevrolet Trax and parked in front of the store.

The two people were “engaged in a dispute with one another” while outside the SUV, the release said. The woman got into the Trax and reversed, hitting the passenger side of a refueling 2010 Honda Civic, the WPS said.

The Civic’s owner went into the store and called police. The man from the Trax followed him into the store and attacked him, causing serious injuries, police said. He was taken to hospital in stable condition and will require multiple surgeries, the WPS said.

Investigators arrested a 28-year-old man shortly before 9 p.m. Sunday. He faces charges of aggravated assault and mischief under $5,000, and was released on an undertaking.
