A 63-year-old man died after his vehicle went to into a ditch in the Rural Municipality of Brokenhead on Saturday afternoon.

Beausejour RCMP were called to the collision scene on Road 38 East in the RM at about 1:40 p.m., where they were advised a passerby found the victim laying on the side of the road, while his vehicle was in the ditch against some trees.

The man appeared to be in medical distress, RCMP said, as he was unresponsive when the witness came across him. RCMP spokeswoman Cpl. Melanie Roussel said it’s not yet clear whether his medical distress was a result of the collision. “It is not clear as to what happened,” she said. “There are no witnesses to the collision.”

The driver, from the RM of St. Clements, was rushed to the local hospital by paramedics, but he was pronounced dead when they arrived.

RCMP are still investigating.
