A Winnipeg man has been arrested after using emergency lighting on his pickup truck to try to pull over vehicles near the Louise Bridge.
Winnipeg police said on Saturday that it received calls about the pickup truck and, after going to the area of the bridge, found a 2017 Chevrolet Silverado parked in a field in the first 100 block of Higgins Avenue on Friday at about 8:15 p.m.
When uniformed officers exited their marked cruiser and approached the vehicle, the lone occupant got out and “challenged their authority and jurisdiction.”
The driver got back into the vehicle, refusing orders to get out, with officers having to use a taser to remove him and take him into custody.
When officers searched the vehicle, they found an emergency light bar attached to the windshield, a conducted energy baton, two collapsible batons, $615 worth of marijuana, and 15 cartons of contraband cigarettes.
The 47-year-old man is facing several charges including impersonating a peace officer, assaulting an officer, two counts of possessing a weapon, and unlawful possession of tobacco products.
The man was released on an appearance notice.
