RCMP say a man reached for a large knife on his belt after officers saw him trespassing in Dauphin on Tuesday.

Police spotted the man on a property on Main Street North at about 3 p.m. The man reached for the weapon after an officer told him not to, Manitoba RCMP said in a news release Wednesday.

Officers searched the man and found a small amount of methamphetamine, unmarked tobacco and cash, RCMP said.

The 43-year-old Dauphin man faces charges of possession of a weapon for dangerous purposes, possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000 and possession of a scheduled substance. He was remanded into custody.
