A man accused in a random attack of a stranger at The Forks Market last month has been arrested.

Police were sent to an apartment building on the 600 block of Jefferson Avenue at 4:20 a.m. on Sunday, believing the suspect was there.

When they arrived, the suspect jumped from a third-floor window but was captured after a chase, the Winnipeg Police Service said in a news release Monday. Officers said the man continued to resist arrest and they used a Taser on him to take him into custody.

Police said the man was also wanted in connection with a robbery and break and enter that occurred the day after The Forks attack, on June 7. He was also the subject of a Canada-wide warrant for being unlawfully at large.

On June 6, a 30-year-old man was beaten unconscious at 11:15 p.m. outside The Forks Market.

The accused then allegedly stole something from the victim and threw it at a woman walking a dog near the river walk. The man was taken to hospital in stable condition.

Daniel Christopher Dumas, 33, is charged with two counts of robbery, break and enter, theft, resisting arrest and being unlawfully at large. He was detained in custody.
