Man charged after cyclist shot on Ebb and Flow First Nation

A 23-year-old man has been charged after a cyclist was shot on Ebb and Flow First Nation last week.

Ste. Rose du Lac RCMP said officers were called to the community just after 8 p.m. on Friday after receiving reports of a shooting.

Police say a 25-year-old Winnipeg man was riding a bicycle when he was shot in the abdomen. He was found near a local business and taken by private vehicle to Ste. Rose du Lac Health Centre before being airlifted to a Winnipeg hospital, where he remains in stable condition.

RCMP said an investigation led to a home in the community, about 235 kilometres northwest of Winnipeg, where a suspect was arrested.

Joshua Houle, of Ebb and Flow First Nation, has been charged with aggravated assault, and numerous firearms offences, including possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, carrying a concealed weapon, careless use of a firearm, unauthorized possession of a firearm, possession of a firearm knowing it was unauthorized, discharging a firearm with intent and possessing a weapon contrary to a court order.

Houle was remanded into custody.
